What Will John Carter’s Excuse Be This Time For Voting Against Health Care For Children?

Posted in Around The Nation, Commentary, Congress, District 31, Had Enough Yet?, Health Care, Right Wing Lies, Williamson County at 11:03 pm by wcnews

Before the SCHIP veto override vote in the House, Congressman John Carter gave three reasons why he was voting to uphold the president’s veto:

  • Covers families that make more than three times the poverty level.
  • Covers some adults.
  • Covers illegal immigrants.

That being said a new bipartisan bill was introduced that dealt directly with and remedied all three concerns that Carter said were his reasons for voting against overriding the president’s veto.

The revised bill includes stronger language to prevent children of illegal immigrants from getting coverage under SCHIP. It also blocks federal SCHIP funds for states that cover children from families earning more than three times the federal poverty level, or $61,950 for a family of four. The legislation also phases out adults from the program in a year instead of two years under the previous proposal.

Now that all his objections to voting for the bill were dealt he certainly would vote for it, right? That would be incorrect, Carter still voted against the SCHIP bill, even though his previous objections no longer exist. This makes it blatantly obvious, if it wasn’t already, that radical right wingers, like Carter, want to make sure that more children are not allowed to have access to quality health care provided by the government. It would bring more American children the same kind of health care coverage that Carter, his fellow radicals, and President Bush all enjoy. And something that good can’t be allowed to just anyone.

All that’s left is to wait and see what Carter’s excuse will be this time for voting against health care for children.
