Obama wins Williamson County and SD5
Williamson county went so heavily in favor for Barack Obama that it tipped the race in Senate District 5 in his favor. The results from Williamson county show that Obama finished ahead of Clinton 27,906 votes to 21,289. The rest of Senate District 5, a 17-county expanse that includes Williamson county, favored Clinton 27,125 votes to 23,606.
The margin of Obama’s win in Williamson county, 6,617 votes, eclipsed the edge for Clinton elsewhere in our Senate District, 3,519 votes. The total vote for Senate District 5 was 51,512 votes for Obama and 48,414 for Clinton.
The turnout in Williamson county was 48% of the total turnout in SD5. There’s two ways to look at this result. First, a lot of Democrats live in Williamson county. Second, in order to mount a successful campaign for a Democratic challenger to state senator Steve Ogden in 2010, our success will need to be spread into Brazos and the other parts of the district.

Ogden won’t be running in 2010. He will be stepping aside for the up and coming, supremely groomed, poster boy of the press, golden child Dan Gattis Jr. My sources are supreme. Gattis is working on the next level, and since somehow we are unable to oppose him at all this go around — he will have the treasure chest amassed to be a formidable opponent.

Steve Ogden might be (not)running from the difficult situation that he created, along with the others in a Republican dominated Senate, during the most recent legislative sessions. For instance: property tax break paid for by the revenue surplus that accrued after the budget cuts of 2001, 3 and 5 (the economic slow-down has ensured that that surplus won’t happen again; oops!); Trans Texas Corridor was postponed, not canceled as it should have been (means serious cuts at TxDOT or a rising state gas tax; he’s had the intestinal fortitude for neither of the aforementioned); oh and it’s a really bad time to be a Republican (Thanx W)!
I ran for TX Senate, district 5, in 2006, and (depending on the progress, or lack thereof, in 2009) could be convinced to do it again.
