Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee Leaders Blog Across Texas
In three posts this week on Texas Progressive Alliance (TPA) blogs in the leaders of the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee (HDCC) are opining on why Democrats must take the majority in Texas House and how it can be done. In introducing the first one Vince Leibowitz put it this way:
The good folks at the HDCC are taking some time out of their schedule this weeks to spend some time in the Blogosphere, in particular writing Guest Blogs to help the Netroots learn more about the great work done by the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee. Reps. Dunnam, Gallego, and Coleman will each be writing a guest blog, and you’ll be able to find each at a different Texas blog.
The first post was from Rep. Jim Dunnam (D-Waco) and appeared at the Burnt Orange Report on Wednesday.
The Republicans are scared, and with good reason! Texans are tired of being last in everything we should be first in and first in everything we should be last in. The Democratic Party is energized like never before, and we are flush with outstanding candidates across the State. Netroots activism is working overwhelming in our favor, organizing Democrats, informing the public and bringing in people who understand what Texans’ true priorities are.
Election Day is just four months away, and we are working hard to turn Texas and the country blue. I encourage you to re-double your efforts between now and November, talk to your friends, raise awareness, donate and volunteer. Despite their fear, Republicans still don’t understand how powerful our united voice can be – let’s show them the difference true change can make.
Thursday Rep. Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) posted at Texas Kaos.
Republicans gained control of the Legislature in 2003 by gerrymandering our Texas House and Senate districts. That same year, courtesy of the new Republican leadership, hundreds of thousands of Texas children were cut from the rolls of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Last session, the Republicans blocked Democratic legislation that would have fully restored CHIP, thus ensuring that we remain last in the nation when it comes to insuring our kids.
But they didn’t stop there.
And on Friday Rep. Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) posted at Off The Kuff.
On March 4, 2008, over 2.8 million Texans voted in the Democratic primary. As one of the 2.8 million, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride knowing that I was able to play a part in making history. Together, we showed the nation that Texas Democrats are energized and ready for change.
It is hard to believe that we have less than four months remaining until the general election. Our nominees have been selected, we have a united Democratic Party, and we are poised to make history yet again on November 4th. Never in my lifetime have Democrats been so motivated and energized. Much of the momentum we enjoy today is a direct result of the Netroots activism that has helped fuel the progressive movement. That is certainly evident right here in Texas.

Since 2003, Democrats have regained nine seats in the Texas House of Representatives, and today we are only 5 seats away from taking back the majority. This dramatic swing of the pendulum is the result of countless hours of dedication, education, and hard work by both Netroots activists and organizations like the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee (HDCC).
The HDCC is organized and lead by Democratic leaders in the Texas House. The HDCC is the only organization in the state dedicated solely to electing a Democratic majority in the Texas House. The HDCC raises money, trains staff and works hand-in-hand with House candidates from across the State to ensure they have every advantage possible during the general election season. Best of all, these services do not cost House Democratic candidates a penny. While the HDCC has been very successful in working toward our goal of taking back the House, we cannot elect a Democratic majority without your help. Click here to invest in the HDCC today.
One of those key races to take back the Texas House is right here in Williamson County, HD-52, where Democrat Diana Maldonado is running to take over a seat now held by a Republican. Let’s continue supporting our candidates and those that support them.
