Diana Maldonado Has Almost 4 to 1 COH Advantage In HD-52
According to documents filed with the Texas Ethics Commission, Diana Maldonado has an almost 4 to 1 cash-on-hand (COH) advantage over her opponent Bryan Daniel in the race to become the next state representative in HD-52. Maldonado has almost $130,000 to her opponents $32,000.
Maldonado’s donations over the filing period came from a wide swath, around 350 donations in all. While getting donations from some of the usual Democratic players like Annie’s List, current and former elected Democrats and unions, she’s also getting support from Independents and Republicans too. As well as local entities like Education Round Rock.
Her opponent on the other hand is getting support from the usual suspects we’ve come to expect of any Republican that will back the current House Speaker Tom Craddick. He’s got the support of insurance corporations (Aetna, Liberty Mutual), communications corporations (AT&T, Time Warner), and energy (ENPAC, Contran). Not to mention the radical right: Swift-boaters Bob Perry and Harold Simmons, the James Leininger/TPPF spin-off Empower Texas PAC, The Texas Lobby Group and Texans for Lawsuit Reform.
It’s a long way to November still but these numbers are very encouraging for Democrats and Maldonado in this race. It’s pretty clear from this that there’s one candidate who’s ready to to use her proven leadership to work for all of HD-52, Diana Maldonado, and her opponent who’s supported by the status quo.
