As I predicted in an earlier comment, two more direct mailers from Bryan Daniel showed up in my mail box yesterday. One addresses illegal immigration and touts support from Greg Abbot, NRA, Young Conservatives of Texas, Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Municipal Police Assn, Texas State Rifle Assocition and Texans for Fiscal Responsiblity (a tool for the Texas Public Policy foundat with close ties to Craddick). The second is focused on “investing in public education.” Clearly an attempt to horn in on Maldonado’s strongest issue. He will (according to the mailer): Direct more resources to the classroom to support teachers and students; Increase accountability and transparency in school funding; and, Always fight for Williamson County Schools. I think he may be walking on thin ice with this “alleged” support for public education. The Republican base isn’t supportive of public schools (dare I say, “hate” public schools) and he risks alienating them with this stance instead of siphoning off support from Maldonado which is clearly what he is hoping. I’ve also heard Daniel radio ads on one of the local stations during the morning drive in both yesterday and today. Can’t wait to see the eight-day fundraising reports to find out how much Craddick money he’s gotten.
Yes that’s no surprise. If he’s sending this out to “swing” voters he’s probably barking up the wrong tree(s), listing all those right wing org’s that back him, except for the TFB. Illegal immigration is only manna for the base, no one else cares about that right now. And if he’s trying to out education Maldonado that means he’s fighting on her turf and that’s great news.
