Many Thanks To All, Democrats Continue To Gain In Williamson County
Democrats win one race and continue to make gains in other races throughout the county.
There are too many to thanks for the progress that Democrats have made in Williamson County in 2008. But just to name a few WCDP Chair Richard Torres, Karen Carter, Henry Kight, SD 5 SDEC Committeeman Brian Hamon, Carl Wake, the numerous Precinct Chairs, and the multitudes of blockwalkers, phone bankers, and volunteers. There are of course the candidates, Diana Maldonado, Brian Ruiz, Mike Grimes, Greg Windham and Jaime Lynn. And their staff members Genevieve Van Cleve, Tommy Tynes, Stephanie Chiarello, Larry Yawn, Braden Frame, April Shapley and Jason Kendall. I’m sure there are many I have missed.
While the headline, and rightfully so, for Democrats in Williamson County is Diana Maldonado’s tremendous win in HD-52, the headway Democratic candidates made again in other races is also worthy of headlines. (Final countywide results [.txt]). Mike Grimes losing by a whisker (285 votes) in the Precinct 1 Commissioners race and Jaime Lynn essentially cutting the 2004 margin in the County Attorney’s race in half, (from a 28% margin to a 15.5% margin), are great signs of continuing progress for Democrats in Williamson County.
These gains along with those made in 2006 point to more opportunities for Democrats in 2010. There are two Commissioners races in the more Democratic areas of the county in Precincts 2 and 4 as well as several county wide postitions. The Democrats who decide to run in those races will benefit from the wealth of knowledge, data, and the fantastic Democratic organization that is now in place in Williamson County. The masses that turned out for the Democratic Prima-caucus in March, and the County Convention in May, were turned out for the general election, and will be brought out again in 2010. With continuing demographic changes, and more choice in 2010, Democrats will again have a great opportunities to break through and win more elected offices in Williamson County.
Rest, relax, and recoup, and come back in 2009 to begin laying the ground work for 2010.
