The Startlegram, The TTC & Conspiracy

Posted in Around The State, Road Issues, Williamson County at 9:24 am by wcnews

The Fort Worth Star Telegram, aka Startlegram, twice last week referred to bloggers, this one in particular, speaking out against the TTC as conspiracy theorists. Here you can see my reply to Mr. Kennedy’s charges. Now not to be charged with being a “conspiracy theorist” again but the folks at the Startlegram are making an effort to marginalize anyone who thinks there might be some type of collusion between our current state government, the federal government and the corporations – foreign and domestic – involved in building this “horridor”. And Mr. Smith can be assured that the confusion is all due to the lack of openness that the Governor, TxDOT, Texas Transportation Commission, have adhered to so far.

As TxDOT’s traveling show winds its way through the state, and as they continue to meet the people of Texas they are overwhelmingly opposed to the TTC. At every one of these hearings there is a scenario, like this one last night in Georgetown, that plays out:

The first of two public hearings on the proposed Trans-Texas Corridor 35 (TTC 35) in Williamson County drew about 300 people. One speaker asked for a show of hands, which indicated that about 298 of the people who showed up are opposed to the project.

With public support for this project seemingly non-existent it shouldn’t be surprising that people are wondering why then is this project moving forward. Which naturally leads people to start looking at what those in favor of this – mainly politicians of the ruling party – have to gain. I’m sure their argument will be something to the effect of, They know what’s best for the future of Texas and we should just sit back and enjoy it.

But whether asking questions about if there’s corruption involved, or secret planning, or foreign ownership of these roads is the people’s right. And whether that person is a farmer from rural Texas, a tax payer in the suburbs, or a blogger, their asking for answers to these questions shouldn’t be looked down on by the press, or MSM if you will. There were many people asking questions about the need to invade Iraq before our President and his band of merry men went into Iraq. A similar thing happened then to those asking questions and look where that got us.

Whether you think it’s a conspiracy, a corrupt boondoggle or just a bad idea there is another opportunity tonight for the people of Texas to participate in their government and voice their concerns in Williamson County, at the Taylor High School.
