There he – John Carter – goes again
With John Carter Watch off for the week, I’ll take a stab at debunking Rep. Carter’s latest misguided rantings in the Round Rock Leader, Supporting the president while also opposing specific policy decisions. An article who’s title makes it seem like there’s only “specific” things he doesn’t support President Obama on, basically goes on to say he disagrees with just about everything that Obama was elected to do as President – the economy, health care, energy, green energy, etc.. He finishes the article with an DeLay-esque, error filled, history of the 1990′s economic recovery.
Carter starts of with this misinformed beginning.
Recently the national media ran wild with stories about the supposed comments of Rush Limbaugh wishing failure on President Barack Obama.
Many have debated the context and intent of Limbaugh’s remarks, but it brings up the issue of how we as Americans view our support of our president, whether or not we voted for him.
Nobody in their right mind wants any U.S. presidency to “fail.”
It appears the only one still quibbling over the context is Carter, since Limbaugh himself reiterated that “I do want Obama to fail“. And now Carter is on record as saying Limbaugh is not in his right mind. Finally something I can agree with Carter on! He them goes on to say this.
Economic history has shown time and again that taking money out of the economy during a slowdown only worsens and prolongs a recession.
Let’s not forget that higher taxes on the wealthy and deficit spending is what got us out to the depression. Also let’s not forget that in the first Bush recession of 1993, President Clinton and the Democrats in Congress passed a budget that raised taxes on the wealthy – witch every GOP member of Congress voted against – that spurred on the economic growth of the 1990′s. Next he attempts to tackle the health care debate.
If the president, or the Speaker of the House, or anyone else proposes a plan to destroy our free market health care system, then we ought to work as hard as we can to make sure that plan does indeed fail.
Too many lives are dependent on our preserving the greatest health care system in the world, one that was built on and can only be preserved through a dynamic free market.
“[F]ree market health care system“, is he out of his mind? For profit insurance companies have run rampant, refuse to pay claims, and we have nearly 46 million uninsured and millions more underinsured. While the United States does have some of the best health care in the world, it’s not available to all citizens. The cost of doing nothing is high, and fixing our health care system will go a long way to fixing our economy.
Next Carter starts whining about Obama’s policies on energy. Anything Carter says on this topic should be taken with a grain of salt. He’s sees everything on this topic through his Exxon-Mobil colored glasses.
Carter is essentially saying in this article that if we would just double-down on what we did in the previous eight years everything will come out different this time. More tax cuts, even less regulation, more of the same on health care, and the same energy policy we’ve had since WW II. Other than Rush Limbaugh’s mental health, there’s nothing else here to agree with Carter on. Ultimately he’s trying to have it both ways by attempting to say he only disagrees with the President on “specific” issues, when actually he agrees with him on just about everything Obama was elected to fix. Sorry John we see through it.

Ok…I have had enough of your poor liberal schooling allowing you to mis-interpret words. There is a HUGE difference between wanting a person (Obama) to fail, and wanting an institution (the presidency) to fail. Rush said he wanted Obama to fail, not the institution.
If you are going to “report” (I use the term loosely) on the news, make sure you get it at least 50% right. Typical liberal crap…twist words and then claim them as fact. There is proof that Obama received money from AIG, then instructed his Treasury Secretary to work with Dodd to put in a provision protecting their bonuses…now he claims that NOBODY knew about the bonuses…what a failure this is turning out to be.

Why should Carter vote against it? After all, the Dems gave them the money…it is up to the Dems to figure out a way to get it back. I do like the 90% tax idea. Let’s do that to Pelosi, Obama, lil’ Timmy, etc. Maybe then spending and taxes will go down…if THEY have to feel the pinch. Next thing you know, Obama will be wasting time filling out basketball brackets and bowling rather than doing his job…oh…wait…DUH.

First off, “liberal schooling”?!
Second, there is no difference. There is no way for “the Presidency” to fail without the President failing, the President is “the Presidency”, “the presidency” cannot succeed if the President fails.
Third, you’re assertions regarding Obama, Geithner and Dodd are false.
It will take some time for Obama to clean up the failure of the last eight years, there will be some trial and error. He hasn’t invaded a country and started a was that turned into a quagmire, so he’s doing just fine.

I love it how, after just two months in office, conservatives are apoplectic over Obama’s decision to fill out a basketball bracket (i.e., participating in a national pastime, which probably took a full 1/2 hour of his time) — claiming he should be “doing his job” — when those same conservatives never said a word about the 2 1/2 years Bush spent at his ranch in Crawford. (See here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/11/politics/uwire/main3927378.shtml)
I also love how conservatives were so quick to scream “defeatist!” at every liberal who was critical of the war in Iraq — to accuse liberals of actually hoping for the U.S. to fail in Iraq, even though no liberal ever came out and said any such thing — yet those same conservatives actually defend their right to declare their hope for Obama to fail in the face of the greatest economic crisis we’ve faced in 80 years.
The hypocrisy of conservatives knows no bounds. It’s quite disturbing.
