My 2009 Municipal Voting Guide
So here are my personal endorsements for Austin, Round Rock, Leander and Georgetown. These endorsements are my own opinions only and have not been approved by any candidate, committee or other organization.

Austin
Lee Leffingwell for Mayor
Times are tough and Lee gets it. He’s committed to working within our means to keep us moving forward. I like Lee so much, I’ve been cruising around with his bumper sticker on my car for the last three months. Ask Donna Beth…1 bumper sticker = $500 of advertising…and we all know Donna Beth can’t be wrong.
Perla Cavazos for City Council Place 1
She’s in it for the neighborhoods, not for the developers. Perla is an amazing woman who is using the strength she’s gained from years of experience to plan out a great forward thinking vision for Austin. Her time as a policy analyst in the Senate combined with her real world commitment to Austin communities will be a real asset on the council. There is no substitute for a woman who has her priorities straight.
Mike Martinez for City Council Place 2
Mike’s done the city well and deserves another term. He is the clear front runner in this race, his opponent hasn’t done anything to really mount a campaign against Mike…this is not the leadership or hard work I want in anyone representing Austin.
Bill Spellman for City Council Place 5
He’s running unopposed but has still be running a great campaign?!? I get messages on a nearly daily basis from the Spellman campaign…meet and greet here, issues forum there. It shows real character for a candidate to have already won and to still keep running. Bill Spellman deserves your vote…even though he’s already won.
Sheryl Cole for City Council Place 6
The fact that her opponent is a bit of a wack job aside, Sheryl has been a great advocate for the people of Austin. She brings a much needed diversity to the council.
Round Rock
John Moman for City Council Place 5
To be honest I’m not particularly thrilled with either candidate in this race, but I am encouraging people to support John Moman. Simply put John is in it for Round Rock, his opponent is in it for himself…and I’ll support selflessness over selfishness any day, all day.
Charles “Chad” Chadwell for Round Rock School District Place 2
Charles was handpicked to fill the seat left open by now State Representative Diana Maldonado. He is a good man who has had to make some tough calls on the school board. His opponent is a 25 year old tech guy who can’t even remember what seat he’s running for (his website has a video of him running for place 7, not two)…and right now…when I look at the issues facing the RRISD…overcrowding, boundaries, budget deficits, etc…I want someone with real experience who can see the forest for the trees, not some new guy who has no real understanding of what the district needs or how to get it.
Antonio Champion for Round Rock School District Place 7
Antonio is one great guy. He’s a 20 year police veteran, who worked diligently last year to get the bond elections passed. An ardent supporter of Diana in her campaign and an family man with two children in the district. Antonio is committed to bringing real comprehensive solutions to “at-risk” students. He’s worked hard for the community his entire life, he deserves our support now.
Leander
Vic Villarreal for Mayor
Vic has been involved or lead every move forward the city has made in the last few years and more importantly Vic is singlehandedly responsible for the investment that ACC has made in Leander. Thanks to Vic Leander will continue to move forward. He is hands down the best choice for mayor.
Andrea Navarrette for City Council Place 1
Andrea was on the council a few years ago and was forced to resign due to some personal issues. Her opponent experienced the same circumstances prior. That places the two of them at a push. Frankly Andrea is the only candidate running for place one that seems to be really committed to Leander’s needs today. For that reason she has my support.
Carl Wake for City Council Place 2
Carl worked his butt of across Williamson County last year. He singlehandedly registered more voters than anyone else that I know. His commitment to tasks is near fanatical at times. He sees projects through and really does what he says. For Leander Carl has laid out some specific plans and goals for today and tomorrow. He has a great knowledge of the city’s current issues and is ready to tackle them. I urge you to vote for Carl.
Michelle Cantwell for City Council Place 4
Michelle brings a balanced view of Leander to the table with real solutions. She has served the city well and should be allowed to continue. Add to the fact that her opponents are “vendetta candidates” with single issue agenda’s and my decision was easy.
Dave Siebold for City Council Place 6
Dave was a friend last year during Jaime’s campaign. His near ten years of experience on the council combined with his in depth well recognized mind for transportation solutions make him the only choice for place six. Dave, like Michelle, has multiple single issue opponents who’s motives are clear…they will not put the interests of Leander first.
Nacole Thompson for Leander ISD Place 2
Nacole is a hardworking mother who knows what we need for Leander’s schools. This seat has been held by one person for two long. We need new leadership and guidance to solve tomorrow’s problems. We must begin to expand our horizons and increase our parents involvement in the LISD now. Nacole is dedicated to this cause and therefore deserves your vote.
Georgetown
Patty Eason for City Council District 1
Patty has served the citizens of Georgetown well for nearly 30 years. She has been the vote of honesty and integrity on the council for 6 years. Patty knows her district and represents her district. Old Town would not be the same with out Patty Eason on the council standing up for District 1’s needs and wants. She has my overwhelming support and endorsement.

I can understand a political endorsement and appreciate everyone’s opinions, but calling me “some new guy who has no real understanding of what the district needs or how to get it” without talking to me is taking it too far. As a reader of Eye on Williamson, I am insulted. I hope you give me a chance to change your opinion.
