News 8 – Harrell vs. “Duck and Run” Carter

This is a close as our current representative’s handlers are going to let him get to having a debate with Mary Beth Harrell. If there is anybody in District 31 who doesn’t know why Mary Beth Harrell’s opponent won’t show up at a town hall, forum or debate, this video makes the reasoning clear. Carter is uninspiring and uninformed.

Mary Beth Harrell is clear and concise in all her answers. Whether it’s on Iraq, the war on terror, immigration, or health care. She knows it’s time to change course in Iraq. Iraq is not the war on terror. Fixing immigration is not only securing our borders but making sure employers hiring illegals are punished as well. And that, of course, we need health care for all Americans.

“Duck and Run” Carter on the other hand starts off by saying this about Iraq, “Well, I think our successes far outweigh our blunders.” What!? I hope he saw the news today. The blunders are many, Mr. Carter. The one that comes immediately to mind is that we went into Iraq with too few troops and without a plan to secure the country and that, Sir, is what all the rest of the problems stem from. Well, you got me, that’s actually two.

On health care, of course universal coverage is the way to go. Every modern, industrialized country on the planet has it except for us. The “free-enterprise system” is what we are enduring right now and that’s why we have a record number of uninsured in this country today.

But it’s Mr. Carter’s lack of intellectual ability that is the most glaring in this video. His answer to the question about imperialism is lacking. Here’s what he says imperialism is, “Imperialism is going in and taking over people’s lives and running their lives.” Not! Here’s what it really is, “The military conquest of a lesser developed nation by a more developed nation in order that natural resources may be extracted from the occupied territories for the economic benefit of the conquering nation.” You know the kind of thing people throw a Tea Party about. I can only assume if asked about the finer points of culture in Iraq he would be as ignorant as his Republican colleague that didn’t know the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite. Once he did a light came on.

Okay voters in TX-31, now you’ve seen the difference between a competent candidate, Mary Beth Harrell, and a bumbling Bush/DeLay/Hastert/etc. lackey. It’s time for a change.
