Maldonado receives “Best of the House” legislative award from law enforcement group
From press release, Rep. Maldonado Receives Legislative Award From CLEAT.
State Representative Diana Maldonado (HD-52) received the “Best of the House” Legislative award from the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, CLEAT, for her work on behalf of law enforcement officers and their families during the 81st Legislative Session.”Our law enforcement officers are the first line of safety in our local communities and I am grateful to them for their commitment and dedication to enforcing our laws and protecting our lives,” said Rep. Maldonado. “I was proud to have introduced and passed critical legislation that supports our law enforcement officers and I will continue working to provide them with the protections and benefits they deserve.”
With the support of CLEAT, Rep. Maldonado introduced House Bill 1960 during the legislative session which provided for payment to peace officers and firefighters for an appearance as a witness. The bill was unanimously passed in the House and Senate, and was signed by the Governor and went in effect on June 19th of this year.
“When Representative Maldonado heard that police officers were often taken away from their crime fighting duties and called to testify in court without receiving pay, she went to work to change the law to protect law enforcement officers and their families,” said Charley Wilkison of the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas.
CLEAT is a Texas’ largest police officers’ union with more than 15,00 members from over 100 statewide affiliates. CLEAT’s mission is to mission is to ensure that all of our members receive all the rights, protections and respect they deserve for their role in enforcing the laws of Texas and protecting the lives and property of its citizens.
Maldonado sits on the House Committee on State Affairs and the Committee on Defense and Veterans’ Affairs. She is serving her first term in the Texas House of Representatives and represents House District 52 which encompasses a portion of Williamson County, including Round Rock, Taylor, Hutto, Thrall, Coupland and part of Georgetown and Austin.
