A new poll, and other items on the election
The race for governor:
New poll [PDF]. Democrats – White 49%, Shami 19%. Republicans – Perry 39% (sound familiar), Hutchison 28%, Medina 24%. One caveat the poll has a small sample size (D-400, R-423), and high (margin of error +/- 5%). On the Democratic side there’s quite a bit of undecided’s – they actually came in second (24%). For the GOP there’s little good news seeing how both the “true” Republicans numbers are sinking compared to the “independent” Republican in the race. What would a Perry/Medina runoff look like?
Election Issues:
Good read on which parts of Texas the voters come from in the Democratic and Republican primaries, Checking back in on the Farouk Shami/Bill White primary.
New study out on Latino voters. Latina Lista, New study on Latino voters shows the key to reaching many Latinos lies in the language of engagement, and Texas on the Potomac, Study: Latinos will play key role in Texas governor’s race, have the analysis.
Nice point/counterpoint between Michael Quinn Sullivan and Matt Glazer on the Teabaggers and their effect on the Texas GOP.
The “wing nuts” in the Texas GOP have the long knives out, in the form of a cell phone voice mail, for state Rep. Todd Smith (R-Euless) for being the Chair of the House Elections Committee last session. He’s got a primary opponent and there will be a Democratic challenger in November.
