Democratic Political Fallout In The Speaker’s Race & More

It’s a good read at BOR, Democratic Fallout from Speaker’s Race?, the comments too. It’s about which Dems could draw primary challenges in ’08 and about their future for statewide office if they continue to support Craddick.

Vince says Democrats are playing right into Republican hands.

Startlegram has a nice wrap-up of yesterday’s events.

Sal tells us that Pitts may be anti-TTC as opposed to Craddick.

This is all so deeply silly. We have Democrats fighting over what Republican to support for Speaker. Do we really deserve to govern if this is how we act? How about we support a Democrat for Speaker and focus on how to win a majority and then elect our own Speaker. Thank you.

While silly it may be it’s the situation we find ourselves in. As far as Democrats fighting over which Republican to support there is such a thing as a lesser evil. Your point is well taken about Democrats supporting Democrats but there is no possibility of a Democratic speaker in the upcoming Lege. As I’ve said on the blog before, the best thing for future Democratic gains, and a possible takeover of the Texas House in ’08 is to leave Craddick as speaker. The best thing for Texas is to have a speaker that allows members of both parties to get there legislation passed. I’m siding with what’s best for Texas.

Remember most of the back and forth your reading is on blogs, not actual Democratic representatives speaking. It’s good stuff that is not found in the MSM. The elected Democrats are staying quiet and trying to let the R’s fight it out amongst themselves.

Thanks for your comment, and keep them coming.
