Spineless and Blind
Two weeks ago our county spent 2.3 million dollars to purchase land north and west of Lake Georgetown. In an effort to spend as much of the money granted to The Williamson County Conservation Foundation as possible Wilco leaders paid Leon Whitney $16000 an acre, 2.3 million, for the 145 acres Mr Whitney acquired in 2000 from AW Hoyt, a longtime Georgetown resident. Mr. Whitney paid $6000 for the entire parcel of land in 2000. Mr Whitney then began his development.
His intent was two sections of large lots that buffered the environmentally sensitive area of the properties. He successfully obtained the county’s approval and sold the lots to a custom builder.
However, he now faced a declining market and the discovery of endangered species that would prohibit development. Then came the countycommissioners and their insatiable appetite for progress and development.
Don’t be fooled. Our commissioners could give two hoots about the bugs or the salamanders. They want faster development. As Mrs. C says, “I think it is a good plan for the taxpayers I think it is a win-win. “Our goal is to move progress, make progress, move development forward.” Its time for Mrs. C to come out of her cave and see the light.
Is it a good idea to pay 2.3 million dollars? Who negotiated the deal for the county? What do these commissioners have to gain by paying 2.3 million bucks for a parcel they had appraised at $43000. Did they realize that Mr. Whitney practically stole the land and exploited an elderly man to do it? Where in the world can we find ‘liberal Republicans’ willing to cough up that much money to save a blind bug and a salamander? Behind closed doors, that’s where. In Executive session. That’s where. In a deep dark cave of nonsense toiling away to discover any means necessary to continue the developer’s war on our Texas. And when Valerie says its our goal to move progress forward (what a line) … Of Whom is she speaking ? I am convinced it is not her constituents in precinct 3.
Wake Up Williamson county. Your commissioners are spending millions of dollars to ’save’ sightless bugs and invertebrates. Blind - Spineless creatures. Just goes to show what a species will do to ensure it’s own survival.
