Report From Diana Maldonado’s Fundraiser

There was a spectacular turnout at Diana Maldonano’s fundraiser kickoff in Austin on Wednesay night. In the huge crowd were Rep. Donna Howard, Rep. Mark Strama, Rep. Elliot Nashitat, Senator Kirk Watson, and former Senator Gonzalo Barrientos, along with numerous other elected officials and ordinary citizens. With Republicans not even having a declared candidate for HD 52 when the filing period opened, it looks like an excellent head start for Maldonado. She spoke for some 10 minutes, emphasizing her expertise in education, among other issues. Personable and articulate, the former president of the Round Rock ISD generates an immediate appeal for Democrats, Independents and disgruntled Republicans who have felt disenfranchised. Change is in the wind.
