House Speaker tom Craddick today announced the Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal Reform, headed by the inimitable Rep. John Otto, R-Dayton.

When it became clear property tax appraisal reform wouldn’t happen in last year’s legislative session, [former state GOP chairman Tom] Pauken had this to say to R.G. Ratcliffe:
“The Republicans have squandered a majority,” said former state GOP Chairman Tom Pauken, who headed Perry’s task force on property tax appraisal reform last year. “We could have gotten a lot more done if we’d had strong Republican leadership. We’ve got to quit simply saluting because they are Republicans.”
