[UPDATE]: I’m hearing it was nothing but our local GOP elected officials talking down to the citizens of Williamson County with their million dollar talking points.

From my take on the packed 5000 sq.ft room, and our chance to speak, which we did NOT get to do, the WCCC have made up their minds. It was the biggest spin job I’ve ever seen. After I cool my heels, I plan on posting a more detailed story. Liberty Hill Local came wearing red and left seeing red!

    Open House, Closed Ears

Both sides are at cross purposes.

    1) The county made a good case that a new road is needed.
    2) The citizenry made it very clear that they don’t want an interstate in Liberty Hill.

The county says they want our “input”, but the only inputs that compute are “Go North” or “Go South”.

    We were told that:

    1) We’re down to two options in Liberty Hill (North or South)
    2) No further routes will be studied
    3) The Hwy 29 route and the North/South park purchase are unrelated

My $0.02 for what it’s worth is, it was not a town hall meeting it was a presentation and answers to selected posted questions, there was no discussion. The impression that they gave me was that they have made up thier minds because they “KNOW BEST”. I understand the desire (even the need) to preserve a corridor for the future, but the problem is that they have done this without any input from the community. They have evaluated the situation and since they “KNOW” how towns grow they will decide what is best for us. The only other option that they leave us since they do not want to alter “THIER SACRED PLAN” is for us to start voting them out off office. If they do not want to listen to the people that they represent then they need to be removed.

Yes, this was a hand down the edict to the serfs. Let them eat… cake. Vocal but as restrained as humanly possible opposition. Lots of red. Lots of *very* uncomfortable body language from the stage. Lots of spin. Lots of elected officials fleeing as soon as they brought things to an end, more than an hour early, though plenty of people had things to say, and possibly ask, of the Commissioners. Commissioner Covey speaking down to her constituents and those of Commissioner Long, and that arrogance we’ve come to expect.

They chose not to even address my questions. They chose not to addresss Jaime Lynn’s questions. Only those questions that allowed them to present their spin apparently made the cut. Not following their own rules isn’t unusual, though, not when they’re not convenient.

A PA system that “mysteriously” wouldn’t carry their timid voices to the back half of the room. Those standing in back, and probably those seated more than halfway back couldn’t hear 85% of what was said.

    What a joke.

    Accountability is coming.

This would have been an instance where the County might have actually *wanted* to have a Fire Marshal. I’m sure that room was over capacity, and the Fire Marshal would have had to close things down and they could have rescheduled after better preparing themselves and bringing more reinfocements.

Only the Liberty Hill Police Chief, a Sheriff’s Lieutenant, and a large deputy there to control the unruly mob of the great unwashed citizenry.
