The President and CEO of the Hutto Chamber of Commerce has accepted a position with the Diana Maldonado campaign for state representative. In his letter of resignation from the Hutto Chamber of Commerce, Johnson said:

My love for this community will always hold a very special place in my heart, but I have decided to accept a position with the Diana Maldonado Campaign for State Representative as the Eastern Williamson County Organizer. I want to continue to serve this community, and I feel the time is right to stand up and be an advocate regarding the issues which affect Hutto and the entire area. I cannot think of a better way to be a part of the solution to the challenges we face than by helping to elect responsible leadership that will serve in the effort to bring balance and transparency back to our state capitol.

Johnson’s move is evidence that the business community in Eastern Williamson County is seeing Diana Maldonado as the best candidate to represent HD-52. The Maldonado campaign continues to add staff and build momentum. Maldonado campaign manager Genevieve Van Cleve said:

Kurt is a great addition to the team. He is a recognized leader in Hutto and a proud native son. Kurt understands that Williamson County is ready for a change from failed Republican leadership more focused on “Gotcha” politics to the balanced and proven leadership of former RRISD School Board President, Diana Maldonado.

UPDATE: The Austin American-Statesman reports on Johnson’s move.
