This link has some interesting graphs on the make up of the House committees. By party, gender, ethnicity, etc.. And at the end had this little nugget:

In addition, the House created the Select Committee on Federal Economic Stabilization Funding, to be chaired by Representative Jim Dunnam (D-Waco).

It seems that committee will be responsible for doling out the stimulus money that Texas receives. Via Texas Weekly:

Dunnam will head a “Select Committee on Federal Economic Stabilization Funding” that will “monitor actions of the federal government, including legislation and regulations, related to efforts to promote economic recovery by providing federal funds to the states” and to develop legislation to “maximize the state’s receipt of federal funds.”

Also here’s the press release from Rep. Diana Maldonado on her committee assignments.

Austin – State Representative Diana Maldonado (HD-52) of Round Rock, Thursday received her committee assignments from the Speaker of the House, Joe Straus.

Maldonado, a Freshman Representative from Central Texas, was appointed to serve on the House State Affairs Committee and the House Defense & Veteran’s Affairs Committee.

“I look forward to representing House District 52 on these two committees during the 81st Legislature,” Maldonado said. “With several major issues facing our state, I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to enact common sense solutions to the real concerns facing Williamson County residents.”

The State Affairs Committee has jurisdiction over state policy including regulated industries such as utilities, telecommunications and public lands. It also has jurisdiction over issues that do not fall under the purview of any other House committee.

The State Affairs Committee is considered a key committee assignment in the Texas Legislature as Maldonado was the only Freshman selected to serve on it. She is also the only Central Texas lawmaker appointed to the committee.

The Defense & Veteran’s Affairs Committee has jurisdiction over defense, emergency management and veteran’s issues.

“As House Speaker I am committed to creating an environment where members can operate fairly and be able to use their best talent to address the many challenges facing our state,” Speaker Straus (R-San Antonio) said. “In selecting Representative Maldonado to these committees, I considered her wisdom, experience and proven ability to provide new, dynamic leadership and offer fresh ideas. We are fortunate to have Representative Maldonado as a member of these important committees.”

“I am honored that Speaker Straus would appoint me to serve on two committees which will have a wide-ranging impact on our state,” Maldonado said. “With my experience on the Round Rock ISD School Board and over 20 years of experience in the State Comptroller’s office, I am uniquely qualified to serve on these two committees and will use my background in business operations each day.”

Maldonado was elected to serve as State Representative for House District 52 in November of 2008. District 52 encompasses a portion of Williamson County, including Round Rock, Taylor, Hutto and part of Georgetown.

Now the Texas House can start getting to work.
