Ben Bentzin admits he is no Vince Young
Donna Howard’s Republican challenger for State Representative District 48 is withdrawing from his November re-match. After blaming Howard for “an extraordinarily negative campaign this past spring,” Bentzin decided to pull the plug on his campaign.
Back in January, after losing a special election for Todd Baxter’s unexpired term on January 17 by 49 percent to 38 percent, Bentzin told the Daily Texan, “I’m Vince Young, and it’s halftime.” Howard prevailed in the February 14 runoff 58 to 42 percent.

At issue in the campaign was Bentzin’s hiring of Republican operative John Colyandro to help with his unsuccessful run for state Senate in 2002. Colyandro has since been indicted for his role in helping other GOP groups that year.
