It’s time to give someone else a chance.
There have been a lot of polls recently in the Texas Governor’s race. The most recent, from Public Policy Polling (PPP) has it at Perry 48% to White %42. The reason to point to this poll is because there’s one thing that I’ve heard two reliable Republican voters say regarding why they will likely vote for White over Perry. Because Perry has been in office too long. “It’s time to give someone else a chance”, are the words they used. That’s why this from the PPP blog makes so much sense.
Tom noted earlier that Bill White has a potential voter pool among Republicans who disapprove of Rick Perry. But he also has room to improve by hammering one message more than any other: that Perry, in his third term already the longest-serving Texas governor in history, has been in the governor’s mansion too long. If White is the right candidate in the wrong year, that message is the right one for this cycle.
To be clear, this is not about term limits. The argument is that Perry’s been in office too long and it’s time to give someone else a chance. It’s an issue that works with soft Republicans and Independents, they don’t care for entrenched power. It’s from a sense of fairness we all have. Bill White is the candidate who can make that happen.
